How Plastic Surgery Changed My Life

I wouldn’t advise plastic surgery for everyone, but it indeed changed my life for the better. I was born with ears that stuck out unusually far. Which as a child was adorable, but as I got older they really caused me a lot of pain. I don’t mean physical pain, but the emotional kind. I was constantly teased and harassed all through my childhood and teenage years. Until one day, I sat down with my mother and we talked about plastic surgery. We decided to look into it and to see how much the procedure would cost. That was five years ago to this day, and my life has never been the same. I am confident, happy, and always ready to take on the world. Sometimes I see young people with physical deformities that go deeper than just “building character”. They have large cleft chin scars, acne scars, and noses that are simply too large for their faces. I tell them that t hey should look into plastic surgery as well. There comes a time when you need to be a truer you. I tell them the story of how plastic surgery changed my life. Plastic surgery was the best decision that I have ever made for myself. My mother is happier too, because she has a happy son. Thanks mom, plastic surgery really did change my life.

How to Keep Safe When Having Cosmetic Surgery through Medical Tourism

Medical tourism for cosmetic surgery sounds enticing. You pay less for the same procedure. You get to visit an exotic location and do some sightseeing after your surgery. It all seems so casual. The question is whether it is really that easy.

First of all, cosmetic surgery is a procedure that must be done by a qualified surgeon. Before you go overseas to get that face-lift, it is wise to investigate the surgeon that will do your cosmetic surgery.

Finding out about foreign doctors who do cosmetic surgery can take an intense search of their qualifications. Their credentials are more important to you than ever because they are some of the few facts you have to go on when you choose a foreign doctor for your cosmetic surgery.

You can contact the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. They have lists of certified ASPS Member Surgeons Abroad you can use for your cosmetic surgery. You can also find listings of International Corresponding Member Surgeons. If your doctor is on one of these lists, and he is who he says he is, then you should be safe.

If you choose one of the ASPS doctors for your cosmetic surgery, the facilities he works in will be safe as well. These doctors will lose their certification if they do not work in safe hospitals and clinics. If you have a non-certified doctor to do your surgery, you are taking your chances with your health.

Routine care after cosmetic surgery can take weeks. The length of stay in a country often does not cover the time needed to take care of dressing the wound and seeing to any complications or post-surgical problems.

If you leave the week or two after your cosmetic surgery, you may need your surgeon. You will find yourself seeking help from a surgeon back home when you arrive there. This destroys all the savings you thought you were getting by going overseas.

You may get home and find that your insurance will not cover your doctor's fixing anything. It could happen because you started your cosmetic surgery in a foreign country. Therefore, you need to make sure, if at all possible that your foreign doctor completes everything necessary to speed your recovery.

As for the sightseeing during recovery, it may be a pipe dream. Depending on your particular cosmetic surgery, you may not be able to do it. If for instance, you have work done on your eyes, you will not be up to looking around at anything.

If you have an extensive procedure done, like major liposuction or breast implants, you may not feel like moving around that much. You may need some down time after your cosmetic surgery. Your doctor will not encourage you to take things too fast unless he is more concerned about his country's medical tourism than your well-being with your cosmetic surgery.

Finally, doctors should not encourage you to travel too soon after cosmetic surgery. If you fly, you can experience blood clots that can pose serious health risks. Do not let any foreign surgeon talk you into going to his country for cosmetic surgery unless you have all the facts. Then, only go if everything you know tells you it is safe.
